🫧 ー about goddess of victory: nikke.
🫧 what is "nikke"?
Humanity has taken to living underground in the last bastion of survival known as the Ark. Nikkes will be sent up with a Commander from the Central Government and work in operations in an attempt to reclaim anything from the surface. The player character ("The Commander") is fresh out of school when his transportation is shot down and he is put face-to-face with the reality of the war. He eventually is in charge of a special commando unit known as "the Counters" and meets several different factions, political espionage and secrets, the reality of what has happened in the war against the Raptures, and the Nikkes who still remain on the surface fighting the war without the assistance of the Ark--the Pilgrims.
LITTLE MERMAID (AKA SIREN) is a Pilgrim who has been on the surface for nearly one hundred years in an attempt to find her fellow squadmates. She is someone with immense power, but is truly a kind soul and wishes nothing more for the best of those around her.
🫧 terminology.
ー NIKKE
• "Nikkes" are women who became super soldier cyborgs in order to fight for humanity's survival. They come in all shapes and sizes. Women with a strong sense of self are able to affect their new bodies into their subconscious idealized version of themselves. These Nikkes also have special abilities and powers. The others are placed into mass produced bodies.
• A Nikke's human brain is kept and placed into the cyborg body and flooded with nanomachines known as NIMPHs, which effectively place the laws of robotics into them. NIMPHs also allow combat and other data pertaining to a Nikke's function to be downloaded into their mind. It also stores memories that can be either wiped by the Central Government, or kept for when transferring into a new body. A Nikke is not truly dead unless her brain is damaged/destroyed.
• Lore reasons have not been fully disclosed as to why men cannot become Nikkes, but most tend to die in the process of becoming one--or go insane and must be terminated.
• Nikke bodies weigh enough to make it that they cannot swim, unless properly outfitted such as the squad that represents the Navy. Little Mermaid is able to encase herself in liquid metal bubbles so that she can go underwater.
• Nikke bodies are anatomically correct and have red "blood." This is because the Nikke mind must still conceive herself as "human", otherwise she will begin to mentally break down. They are capable of having sex but cannot produce children. Nikkes are aware they are not human by the definition of "mankind", but the introduction of too many robotic functions cause the breakdown. This leads to a Mind Switch where the Nikke's personality can drastically alter and the NIMPHs will delete memories (effectively PTSD).

ー Raptures and Heretics
• An alien life force that invaded Earth over one hundred years prior to the game start. Raptures are mechanical beings that seem to have some biomass to them. Original models that came to Earth would feed on humans for power, and now Nikkes in some cases.
• They are led by a Queen or multiple Queens.
• Raptures have tentacle appendages that when come into contact with a Nikke will spread corruption and rewrite their NIMPH to be loyal to Raptures. Central Government orders are that the moment a Nikke is corrupted she is to be killed on site.
• "Heretics" are Nikkes that have been corrupted. Their former names and designations do not matter as humanity/the Central Government gives them new names. A key feature of a corrupted Nikke is the fact her eyes will turn red.
• Through the course of the game it is revealed a Heretic can be returned to her previous state through very big spoiler things.
ー The Goddess Squad
• A squad of Nikkes that were "Fairy Tale" (or Grimm in the localization) models and were some of the most powerful Nikkes. They fought during the First Rapture Invasion and inspired humanity to the point they thought the war was winnable. For their achievements they were known as "The Goddess Squad" and were the genesis of the terminology of a Nikke becoming a "goddess of victory."
• The Squad consisted of The Legendary Commander, Liliweiss (the first successful Nikke and who all Fairy Tale/Grimm models are based on), Dorothy, Rapunzel, Red Hood, Scarlet, and Snow White.
• All members of the squad have names that reflect fantasy/fairytales.
• Tragedy befell the squad and through events of "Red Ash" and "Overzone" the squad fell apart or died. Dorothy, Snow White, Rapunzel and Scarlet become Pilgrims in an attempt to find the Rapture Queen and kill it. Or, in Dorothy's case, destroy the Ark.
• The Goddess Squad was active about ~100 years prior to the game starting.
ー The Old Tales Squad
• A squad that was made up of Second Generation Fairy Tale/Grimm models. These Nikkes were created by a woman named Abe, who became a Nikke because sleep was inconvenient. Literally.
• Like the Goddess Squad, all members are named after fantasy/fairytales.
• The squad consisted of Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Abe, Hansel and Gretel, and Red Shoes.
• Through the events of "Old Tales", the squad is broken down before their debut onto the battlefield ever happens as Cinderella is somehow corrupted. Red Shoes is presumably dead, Cinderella and Abe are now part of the main story, Hansel and Gretel are missing, and Little Mermaid has been reunited with Cinderella and Abe.
